Science

Anna Hollywood began teaching at Wetherby in September 2010. She spent her first year in Reception and now teaches Year 1. Prior to arriving at Wetherby Anna spent another two years teaching in Reception and four years teaching in Year 3. During her career she has also been an art, maths and PE co-ordinator. Anna became Science co-ordinator at Wetherby in September 2011. Her Bachelor of Arts degree was in Sociology from Durham University. She began her teaching career in September 2004 and was trained at Kingston University in London. For many of the boys at Wetherby, Science is one of their favourite subjects and Miss Hollywood would like to foster this enthusiasm by making the invisible, visible and creating lessons that capture the boy’s natural wonder and curiosity about the world. For example, she hopes this can be achieved through the use of practical examples of Science in action, hands on activities for the boys to independently investigate concepts and experiments that challenge preconceived ideas on scientific processes. Miss Hollywood would like to plan Science lessons that promote learning using a range of contexts and developing investigative skills for scientific enquiry and to ensure that these skills are developed and built upon as the boys progress through the school in order to enable them to be independent scientists. Miss Hollywood believes her role of Science Coordinator can not only continue to ignite the love of Scientific learning for the boys but also to fan the flame through dynamic, exploratory and motivating lessons that capture the awe and wonder and unexpected nature of Science.
Each year group in the school has a Science lesson every week. Boys have exposure to many different topics within the scientific spectrum whilst at Wetherby.
