An Ambitious, Integrated Programme to Unleash Our Boys' Full Potential

At our school, we deliver a bespoke academic curriculum, which is dynamic in content and promotes accelerated learning to lead our boys to excellent outcomes. With over seven decades of experience delivering first-rate independent education, we aim to equip pupils with an impressive range of practical and intellectual skills that not only establish a solid foundation for future learning but also prepare them for successful admission to London's top schools.

We believe that an enriching education is most effective when tailored to each child's learning style and pace. As such, our syllabus integrates modern and traditional subject matter and is taught using a child-centred model informed by best practices. Our teachers take the time to understand boys' needs, encourage curiosity, and extend learners' knowledge where possible to help them unlock their full potential.

our school curriculum

Curriculum Overview

Our curriculum is broad, balanced, engaging and challenging. Strong reading, writing and numeracy skills are vital, and teachers plan the syllabus carefully to ensure that it establishes these essential competencies while offering continuity in learning and pupil progression. The school's core principle is to cultivate an inspiring setting where all boys work to the very best of their ability. At our school, our pupils strive to succeed and have fun while doing so.

In Reception, the aim is to establish a strong foundation for future learning through both structured and child-initiated activities. As children progress through school, teachers increase their efforts to refine their academic skills. We offer as many engaging opportunities for learning and development as possible to thoroughly prepare our boys for their respective 7+ or 8+ entrance examinations.

A Dynamic Programme of Study

The boys follow the school's specially designed dynamic curriculum for mathematics, English, science, integrated curriculum, and Religious Education (R.E.). Reasoning, Learning for Life (Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education), French, music, drama, art, design and technology, computing and physical education (P.E.) are also included in the core curriculum.

The P.E. syllabus offers gymnastics, swimming, football, rugby, cricket and hockey, which, combined with the subjects above, form a holistic, enriching programme of study. Across all year groups, subject specialists teach French, music, drama, art, computing and P.E.

Firm Commitment to Pupil Progress & Development

We take into account the ability of every boy to ensure he is placed on a path that will lead to ongoing achievement in his future education. Boys benefit from the school's personalised approach, which acknowledges and embraces their unique and ever-evolving needs, effectively challenges them and nurtures their talents.

The school's assessment practices are wide-ranging and pupil wellbeing is of great importance to us. We aim to give every child the opportunity to demonstrate their ability in a calm and stress-free environment. The results of periodic assessments allow us to gather comprehensive information on each pupil's progress and act as a point of reference for teachers when designing accelerated learning strategies and necessary interventions.

lifelong skills

Establishing Lifelong Skills

During daily learning, the boys work independently and in groups with their classmates, encouraging cooperation while helping them understand the importance of respecting others. Our school places a strong emphasis on pastoral care and the personal development of the boys.

In line with this commitment, we deliver a Learning for Life course, which is an essential aspect of our curriculum as it gives our boys the tools they need to become confident, happy and resilient individuals who are fully capable of attaining continued academic success.

Integrated Curriculum

At our school, pupils are keenly aware of the world around them and their place within it. We aim to nurture their natural curiosity through an innovative Integrated Curriculum, which links different areas of study in a way that emphasises unifying concepts. Our Integrated Curriculum includes traditional subjects, such as history and geography, which are connected through an overarching theme woven into other areas of learning, including art, music and English. By fostering a cross-curricular approach, we empower our boys to apply their knowledge meaningfully to various school subjects and real-life contexts.

In geography and history lessons, our pupils make meaningful connections between various subject areas and transfer their knowledge to real life. Our school's thematic learning approach supports a higher rate of retention of taught material, allowing pupils to contextualise their understanding. Our principal aim is to teach a broad and balanced curriculum that develops each boy’s historical and geographical knowledge, skills and understanding while also emphasising the relevance of the subjects. Lessons seek to engage pupils so that they can appreciate the influence of these subjects on their past, present and future.

When designing lessons for the Integrated Curriculum, we are aiming to foster an enjoyment of history and geography from an early age. We deliver the curriculum through a skills-centred approach, extending the boys’ natural curiosity of the world around them and encouraging them to question, explain, problem-solve and describe their knowledge and understanding of each topic in the syllabus. We equip pupils with the ability to make decisions, evaluate evidence based on a range of sources, record information, and communicate their knowledge in a variety of ways.

In the first few years of learning, it is of prime importance to introduce early concepts via a diverse and exciting curriculum. To do this in the most effective way possible, our experienced teachers create interactive lessons that enable pupils to investigate, explore and evaluate the topics they are studying. As a result, children develop their ideas in a fun and engaging way. To further solidify teacher-led learning, we provide opportunities for the boys to expand upon the syllabus through educational trips and workshops, a wealth of subject-specific resources (e.g., books), primary and secondary sources and various technologies (e.g., iPads, virtual reality).
