A Pathway to Success in School and Beyond

At Wetherby School, boys enjoy access to a range of exciting learning opportunities, which inspire and challenge them as they continue their educational journeys. An ambitious, all-rounded curriculum awaits boys aged 6 to 8 years and prepares them to move seamlessly to top prep schools, after successfully completing their 7+ or 8+ entrance exams.

In advancing through Years 2 and 3, pupils are pushed to discover new talents, refine existing ones, and develop a number of critical competencies. Our generous extracurricular offering aims to maximise opportunities for development, while additional roles (e.g., School Council Representative) promote qualities like leadership and accountability. Thus, boys emerge confident, caring and multi-skilled, with the tools to excel in the classroom and the wider world.

Life in Upper School

Life in Years 2 and 3

Our holistic approach to learning allows boys to advance confidently in academics, develop key life skills and personal qualities, and achieve excellent results in class and beyond. Exciting opportunities at this stage promote growth and prepare boys for success in the next phase of their education. A rigorous yet flexible syllabus helps each boy to proceed comfortably at a pace suitable for their needs, while also being challenging and enriching their school experience.

Our dedicated teaching staff are passionate about unlocking our boys’ full potential. In Years 2 and 3, teachers work tirelessly to prepare boys for the 7+ and 8+ assessments and are supported in this by extensive knowledge of Upper School requirements. They also advise on the most appropriate age at which each learner should take their examination to secure entry into the country’s top selective prep schools.

We recognise the importance of fostering an expansive skillset. Our generous extracurricular programme seeks to cultivate boys’ technical, artistic and athletic abilities. At this level, learners are pushed to take on additional responsibilities by, for instance, joining the School Council or Eco-Warriors, while benefitting from impeccable pastoral support. In exploring and engaging in a range of activities, our boys become confident, all-rounded and fully equipped with the means to succeed in the 21st century.

Years 2 and 3 Curriculum

The bespoke curriculum in Years 2 and 3 is personalised to deliver a range of exciting experiences for our boys to explore and engage in. This dynamic, child-centred approach allows learners to not only maximise their learning potential but also discover, develop and pursue their unique strengths and passions. Thus, they become confident, capable and multi-skilled individuals.

Building on skills and competencies from Reception and Year 1, our Years 2 and 3 syllabus continues to challenge learners while exposing them to diverse subject matter. We place equal emphasis on all subjects, from English and history to science, mathematics, geography and religious education; as a consequence, no matter the area they are skilled or interested in, each boy is fully supported to excel across the curriculum. Subjects like reasoning, French, Learning for Life (PHSEE), music, art, computing, and design and technology offer additional scope and improve boys’ knowledge and understanding of the world around them.

At Wetherby School, opportunities for excellence and learning are not limited to the classroom. With access to nearby leisure centres, boys enjoy physical education (P.E.) activities like swimming, football, gym, rugby, cricket and hockey, all of which improve mental and physical well-being. Numerous trips around London provide boys with ample opportunity to explore and engage deeply with the core curriculum. Finally, in the summer term of Year 3, learners embark on an enriching residential trip, which serves as the highlight of their time at Wetherby School.
