Carols by Candlelight

Last month saw our much-anticipated event, Carols by Candlelight.  The Christmas Carol Concert is always one of the most joyous musical highlights of the year, and this year’s was especially festive. The beautiful setting of St Matthew’s Church looked especially radiant, as candles, carried by boys adorned the building.  The concert opened with a gentle and moving performance of John Rutter’s lovely Christmas Lullaby, as the Year 3 choir processed in by candlelight.  All four of school’s choirs were in operation at the concert, offering us music from such diverse traditions as Africa, America and Spain. Year group songs raised the roof of the church, including the ever-popular Santa Claus is Coming to Town, which was sung by all the boys present.  The event was rounded off by the vicar of the church, Rev. Will Coleridge who gave a blessing to families, as well as a short talk on the meaning of Christmas. All the boys who performed, whether as singers or as one of the delightful readers, did so with an assured composure which is uncommon in pupils so young.  Our thanks and congratulations go to all the boys who performed.
